Melanie Nods 04:21
Melanie nods when she hears that song Sounds so good that she plays along She’s got the rhythm in her fingers Melanie nods but she’s saying no That’s not the place she wants to go Time to get out but she still lingers I’m only playing you along I’ll disappoint you when I’m gone I’m only playing you and ... Don’t you yearn for something new? Can’t you sense a change is due? A moonlight flit is clean and quick No chance to talk me out of it Melanie nods but her answer’s no She doesn’t like to tell you so Wants to be so enthusiastic Melanie nods and the world’s okay It’s going to be a beautiful day The words you use can be quite elastic I’m only playing you along I’ll disappoint you when I’m gone I’m only playing you and ... Don’t you yearn for something new? Can’t you sense a change is due? A moonlight flit is clean and quick No chance to talk me out of it

Lemonade Sin 03:36
Lemonade sin Ninety-nine per cent sugar rush Causing a mild blush It is what it is Lemonade sin Is verging on placid Only a hint of the acid Amid sweetness and fizz The missionary told me That we were all culpable Impure emotions Will in time take their toll Well I’ve not hurt anyone Maybe myself a bit A little light bruising Can be good for the soil High wire, only two feet above Playing with fire, wearing asbestos gloves Lemonade sin PG-rated vice You’ll still go to paradise If that is your scene Lemonade sin Nothing too scary A couple of Hail Marys Will leave you pristine The priest had informed you You were irredeemable If you didn’t confess To your deviant ways You had to use your Imagination Dream up your own infestation And your plummet from grace High wire, only two feet above Playing with fire, wearing asbestos gloves Lemonade sin Ninety-nine per cent sugar rush Causing a mild blush It is what it is Lemonade sin Is verging on placid Only a hint of the acid Amid sweetness and fizz

Semolina Den 03:51
My secret friend She made me feel better My secret friend She made my smile better Can’t catch her crying  She’s always flying away My secret friend She lives in the park My secret friend  Queen of the dark sky Brings me to the fountain Catch myself a thousand miles away Onwards, you let the thread unwind Hold tight or you'll be left behind Can't drift, I mustn't lose my place Don't stay for yet another taste On the edge of vision There may be a hidden pathway Transfixed by shadows in the trees She left love letters on the laurel leaves I know that I’ll be back again With you in the semolina den My secret friend It’s time to stop She left her raincoat In the big top

Denial Omens 03:47
I met you at your sister’s party Didn’t know that you’d even be there But you were the one that I talked to that night As we slowly got drunk on the stairs I was yours from the night of that party We seemed to connect straight away Thought you'd be with me wherever life took us Not waving me off by the runway But you’d rip me from my roots Leave me on barren land So you could follow your dreams I don’t want to hold you back But it can’t always be me Caught in your slipstream Here’s something for the weekend Something for you to take away Something to get you thinking   Denial omens pushed away What you told me I took at face value I believed every word that you said Now I’m grasping at shadows, there’s nobody there And I can’t see a future ahead It should be give and take But I can’t forsake Every ambition I had And If I have to stagnate In this town I hate I’ll get bitter and sad Here’s something for the weekend Something for you to take away Something to get you thinking   Denial omens pushed away If you never ask the question Then you’ll never get the answer You don’t want to hear And there’s only one answer There’s only one answer Here’s something for the weekend Something for you to take away Something to get you thinking   Denial omens pushed away Here’s something for the weekend Something for you to hoard away Something that can sustain you Denial omens melt away Denial omens melt away Denial omens melt away Denial omens melt away Denial omens melt away

Solemn Diane 04:01
Oh, solemn Diane Solemn Diane Solemn Diane Who can resist her magnetic presence? No one, no one at all We may covet but we’ll never be jealous If she falters then we all will fall Oh, solemn Diane Solemn Diane Solemn Diane She sees through our trivial obsessions Waves away our light-hearted views Tolerates our feeble transgressions Just seeing her will disabuse Our wayward habits Oh, solemn Diane Solemn Diane Solemn Diane She’d never judge us She sees the best in us, says we’ll never let her down So we judge ourselves against her And always run aground We are not worthy of Oh, Solemn Diane Solemn Diane Solemn Diane She says we'll never let her down

We could begin with uneven grace
We could begin with the lines on my face
You must admit there was a fleeting attraction
Fix me carbon marks you cannot erase Draw dignity and rage
 My gravity and age
 Show frailty and change
Fill up this empty page Draw dignity uncaged My gravity unchained Show frailty and pain Fill up this empty stage Draw the places you have been
The darkest space I let you in
I must admit I am in need of distraction Mark every cell of fading skin Draw dignity and rage
 My gravity and age
 Show frailty and change
Fill up this empty page Draw dignity uncaged My gravity unchained Show frailty and pain Fill up this empty stage And if art is the lie that will show you the truth
Draw fragments of time upon my fragile youth I was inviting compassion, tender interpretation I was capturing the debris of your brittle muse   Rejuvenate me Recalibrate me Delineate me Resuscitate me

Alien Demons 04:22
I stand outside myself And watch the words erupt Nowhere to hide myself I’m set to self-destruct Stuck on this empty page Overwhelmed by rage I’m just the story-teller I’m just the story-teller Let loose a tasteless tongue A supernatural betrayal Unearthly Judas kiss Twisting every detail A moment’s all it took To write that shabby book I’m just the story-teller I’m just the story-teller I know the pain that I’m causing  but I’m not in control  (I know the pain that I’m causing  but I’m not in control)  Blame the alien demon; it’s my sense that she stole (It’s my sense that she stole)
What’s said can’t be undone I light the fuse and run I’m just the story-teller I’m just the story-teller

Indestructible Vainglorious joy Stretching out across the glistening shale Breathe in her salty skin A citrusy vim She could never disappoint me Slipping through sweet dreams I venture in Swathed in a mild neon sea Irrepressible (shrouded dilettantes) A summertime glow (tending their prize) Lightly skipping the shallow waves Imperceptible (a drop in the ocean) Dusk-coloured sails (in search of a wave) Beat of a small and unborn heart (projecting futures on to a blank page) Slipping through sweet dreams (my expectations) I venture in (gently lowering) Swathed in a mild neon sea My expectations (slipping through sweet dreams) Gently lowering (I venture in) Into a mild neon sea The water's glowing And I'm going, going deeper in We're all glowing Bearing down Slipping through sweet dreams (my expectations) I venture in (gently lowering) Swathed in a mild neon sea

I like writing poetry I keep it under wrap If I put it on display You’d rightly call it crap The seldom praised are praised indeed I dish out plaudits by the stack Applaud half-written, nowhere tunes But never cut myself the slack But today I did it right Tapped into some lost goldmine I specialise in messing up Flattery’s no friend of mine Friend of mine, friend of mine I like singing to myself The tunes from in my head If someone comes in the room I cut myself off dead I listen and give two stars and a wish I wish that we could all be stars But crushing doubt will cripple me Drown my voice in loud guitars But today I did it right Tapped into some lost goldmine I specialise in messing up Flattery’s no friend of mine But today I did it right Feel the shivers down my spine Finish this day on an up Award myself a seldom nine Seldom nine. Seldom nine

about

Lemonade Sin London, UK

London and Devon-based Lemonade Sin are the creation of Lee Friese-Greene and Simon Aldous – assisted by Charlotte, Robin and Jen. While they cite their primary influences as Abba and the Velvet Underground, their dreamy indie-pop sound also has echoes of every great boy/girl duet you’ve ever heard –from Nancy and Lee, via the Pastels to Belle & Sebastian and the Human League ... more
